Companisto, one of the top online crowdfunding platforms in Europe, was able to invest over EUR 1.4 million in the exceptional five-star resort Weissenhaus Grand Village Resort & Spa within just a few days. The money was raised from investors after the project had been initiated by its major investor, Jan Henric Buettner, who is also an internet millionaire. To date, this is still the largest equity-based crowdfunding campaign in Europe.
This superb property is located by the Baltic Sea, which is only 100 km north of Hamburg – a village that has been a tourist destination for the last 400 years. Weissenhaus Grand Village Resort & Spa has remained the leading resort and spa in the region for over the past 9 years. The resort comprises more than 60 suites and rooms and numerous modern restaurants.
Weissenhaus is strategically located and surrounded by several other tourist attractions that keep guests entertained and thrilled at all times. It is accentuated by a magnificent 3-kilometer stretch of beach, has an in-built thermal bath and is surrounded by numerous other accommodation facilities that guarantee total relaxation for its guests. In addition, guests get a chance to experience a combination of both modern and traditional styles, exceptionality, class and total comfort.
Jan Henric Buettner has been a renowned investor since the 1980s. He is the founder and owner of Weissenhaus Grand Village Resort & Spa and has been involved in managing different investment projects in Europe, Germany, and US. He has invested over EUR 64 million in Weissenhaus so far and has decided to introduce a new way of constructing, operating and financing Weissenhaus. He has partnered with Companisto to bring interested investors on board to become part of Weissenhaus through equity crowdfunding. Investors will have a chance to do business with a major investor who has been in the industry for several decades.
“When I went to the U.S. with the idea of becoming a venture capitalist in 1997, this form of corporate financing was still very new in Germany. The same applies to crowdfunding and equity-based crowdfunding today. It is my personal concern to change this situation because it is high time that entrepreneurs and private investors, particularly in Germany, interacted directly with each other without having to rely on outdated bank or investment company structures,” Buettner explained.
Investors who are interested in buying shares in Weissenhaus through Companisto will get a fixed interest rate of 4% p.a. and will share the increase in property value plus the revenue collected from the resort. Buettner guarantees investments by his own private assets plus the property’s land charge. According to this arrangement, the owner, co-investor Andreas von Blottnitz and other investors have been put on a neutral level with harmonized interest rates and no hidden costs usually associated with investment companies, banks and other financial institutions.
Companisto has only been offered investments in small firms prior to this, but with this project, it is starting to offer new types of assets. Therefore investors will be able to diversify their investments and be part of a mega project. Companisto is also using this to demonstrate the suitability of equity crowdfunding for large investment projects and established businesses.
€2,972,225 has already been invested in this project surpassing the €2.4 million mark that has been set previously by other deals in Europe.
